Oh well, the likes of fire insurance on the limelight these days due to the social media and also news paper media publishing on the PMD fires and also the AMK huge fire that damages quite a number of stuffs in the HDB.
And more people start to realize that their fire insurance actually doesn't cover the things they want it to cover; meaning our mandatory Etiqa 5 years renewable fire insurance sadly only covers for Building structures, fixtures & fittings provided by HDB and/or its approved developer.
What does that even means? Here it is: (Source: https://www.etiqa.com.sg/personal/general-insurance/property/hdb-fire-insurance/)
So what it means is it only covers anything that comes when you collected your keys - the bare unit of the HDB you bought provided by our Housing Development Board of Singapore.
Question: "Then what about my expensive leather sofa or the electrical appliances that i bought when i moved in??" Glad you asked!!!
There are comprehensive home content insurance available out there in the market and i don't even need to compile them as you can access them via this link(Click Here To Find Out More)
But sometimes the wordings and policy might be different from insurers to insurers. So it's best to go through them carefully before you make a decision about it. Premium wise usually are pretty affordable ranging from $50/year onwards, depending on what ala carte items you want to insure your home for. One of the Atas home content coverage that i was reading about is from AIG Premier Client Solutions (aka. PCS for short). I have also personally attended their AIG General Insurance training on this product and i can only say if you got really expensive items to cover for, think the likes of expensive bags, displays or jewelery, you can enquire more about PCS i think it will fit what you need =)
Alternatively, most HDB owners like myself we just need something that can cover the costs of our renovations and also our furnitures, and not to forget this item clause called repatriation expenses; which means a place to stay during the period of recontructing your house in the event of really terrible fire and the whole place chao ta like tha amk house.
Hope this gives a glimpse of how home content insurance can help us during fiery times like this where alot of fire in homes are reported in news and social media. PMD users must really take note not to overcharge their battery at home as there are too many accident reports on overcharging issues and fire at home.
Do let me know if you find my article useful or additional resources i can add to help other HDB owners or home owners in Singapore to enhance their home content insurance cover.
Have a great working week ahead and advance Happy Singapore National Day to all of you out there!!!
